Each year, Southern Growth Policies Board honors
Southern initiatives that are improving economic opportunities
and quality of life in the region. Innovator Awards are presented
annually to one organization in each of Southern Growth’s
member states, and winners are recognized at Southern
Growth’s Chairman's Conference. The 2011 Innovator Awards recognized private sector businesses in the South that have achieved success through the adoption of innovative manufacturing processes. The 2011 Innovator Award winners are
as follows:
ALABAMA
Quality Filters, Inc. has evolved from a small manufacturing company with a limited line of pleated filters to a competitive presence offering a large array of HVAC, gas phase and paint filtration products nationwide.
ARKANSAS
Splash SuperPools, an industry leader in manufacturing soft wall swimming pools in the U.S. since 1993, has developed a product line of biogas domes and gas holders for renewable energy production.
KENTUCKY
Semicon Associates is a world-class producer of dispenser cathodes for traveling wave tubes, cathode ray tubes, and ion lasers; and a producer of space qualified cathode assemblies.
LOUISIANA
Windward, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company that designs and develops custom, high pressure hydraulic products, electro-mechanical assemblies, turret drives, and gear boxes for major projects in the defense and offshore industries.
MISSISSIPPI
Hol-Mac Corporation manufactures and distributes Pac-Mac refuse and recycling equipment for the solid waste industry.
NORTH CAROLINA
Clear Path Recycling, LLC is a joint-venture between DAK Americas and Shaw Industries that produces recycled polyethylene terephthalate (RPET) flake from post-consumer, plastic bottles.
OKLAHOMA
Tornado Alley Turbo Inc. manufactures and installs balanced fuel injectors on aircraft engines as well as additional upgrades on general aviation aircraft.
SOUTH CAROLINA
PurePOWER Technologies—a subsidiary of Navistar International—designs and manufactures high-performing air, fuel and aftertreatment systems by combining research and development, engineering and manufacturing functions.
TENNESSEE
Genera Energy, LLC focuses on developing integrated biomass supply chain solutions and strategic partnerships to support the bioenergy industry in Tennessee.
VIRGINIA
Heatex America—a subsidiary of Heatex AB Sweden—is a leading innovator within the air-to-air heat exchanger industry.
WEST VIRGINIA
FCX Systems, Inc.'s core business is the design, manufacture and sale of power supplies and air conditioning for the military and commercial aviation markets.
