Program Description: The John C. Stennis Institute of Government was established at Mississippi State University in 1977 in honor of United States Senator John C. Stennis who was a 1923 graduate of Mississippi State. Operating primarily through an endowment raised by the MSU Development Foundation, the Stennis Institute performs a threefold mission: (1) to enhance the efficiency of Mississippi State and local government through research training, technical assistance, and service; (2) to conduct research and technical assistance which focuses on rural development; and (3) to promote civic education and citizen involvement in the political process.
